Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron), a government-owned enterprise, has recently clinched three significant contracts from the Tamil Nadu government, collectively valued at ₹1,076 crore. These contracts, awarded through competitive bidding, encompass the establishment of advanced IT labs, smart classrooms, and the provision of tablet computers for primary school educators in Tamil Nadu.

Keltron’s IT Business Group:

Keltron’s IT Business Group played a pivotal role in securing these substantial contracts, showcasing the company’s prowess in the education technology domain. The competitive tenders, floated by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Service Corporation, saw Keltron emerge as the successful bidder.

Work Order Details:

  1. Hi-Tech IT Labs and Command and Control Centre (₹519 crore): Keltron is tasked with establishing 8,209 advanced IT labs in 7,985 schools across Tamil Nadu. This project also involves setting up a command and control centre to oversee these labs' operations. Keltron will manage the lab maintenance for a five-year period. The labs will be equipped with desktop computers, web and indoor IP cameras, 5KVa UPS, internet routers, and network connectivity.
  2. Smart Classrooms (₹455 crore): Keltron will establish 22,931 smart classrooms in various Tamil Nadu schools. These classrooms will feature laptops, projectors, USB multimedia speakers, and interactive whiteboards.
  3. Tablet Computers for Primary School Teachers (₹101 crore): Under this contract, Keltron will supply 79,723 tablet computers to primary school teachers in Tamil Nadu to facilitate enhanced educational delivery.

Keltron’s Expertise in Education Technology:

Keltron boasts a proven track record in implementing smart classrooms and advanced labs in educational institutions. With 12 years of experience in running advanced classrooms, Keltron has successfully implemented similar projects in Kerala's government schools. Recognized for its expertise in setting up state-of-the-art classrooms, Keltron has collaborated with the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) to supply IT equipment for educational institutions across Kerala.

Prequalification for Tamil Nadu Tender:

Keltron's extensive experience in Kerala played a pivotal role in its prequalification for the Tamil Nadu tender. The successful implementation of smart classrooms in Kerala, in line with the Directorate of Public Instruction's specifications, underscored Keltron's capabilities and facilitated its securing of contracts in Tamil Nadu.

Earlier Success in Odisha:

Prior to its Tamil Nadu contracts, Keltron had won a ₹168 crore order to establish smart classrooms in Odisha, further solidifying its presence in the education technology sector across multiple Indian states.
