Agro-Climatic Zones of Bihar

The state of Bihar falls under Lower and Central Gangetic Plain agroclimatic zones of India. On the state, Bihar can be further subdivided into four zones on the basis of  rainfall, temperature, terrain and soil. The four agroclimatic zones of Bihar are

1. North West Alluvial Plains (Zone I)
Districts: West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Saran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Gopalganj, Begusarai
Soil: Sandy loam, loam
Average Rainfall: 1250 mm
Temperature: 7.0-37.0°C

2. North East Alluvial Plains (Zone II)
Districts: Purnea, Katihar, Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Khagaria, Araria, Kishanganj
Soil: Sandy loam, Clay loam
Average Rainfall: 1450 mm
Temperature: 8.5-34.0°C

3. South East Alluvial Plains (Zone IIIA)
 Districts: Sheikhpura, Munger, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Bhagalpur, Banka
Soil: Sandy loam, Clay loam, loam
Average Rainfall: 1100 mm
Temperature: 7.5-37.5°C

4. South West Alluvial Plains (Zone IIIB)
Districts: Rohtas, Bhojpur, Buxar, Bhabhua, Arwal, Patna, Nalanda, Nawada, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Gaya
Soil: Sandy loam, Clay loam, loam
Average Rainfall: 1100 mm
Temperature: 7.5-37.5°C
