In a significant stride toward enhancing the travel experience for passengers, Swiggy, an online food ordering and delivery platform, has joined hands with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to introduce pre-ordered meal delivery services on trains. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalized on March 5, 2024, through a signing ceremony attended by Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC, and Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, along with senior officials from both entities.

Pilot Launch and Expansion

Commencing from March 12, 2024, the service will initiate operations at four prominent railway stations – Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada. As part of a phased expansion, the service is slated to extend to an additional 59 city stations nationwide in the subsequent weeks. This expansion aims to offer a broader array of culinary choices to passengers during their train journeys.

The collaboration with Swiggy is a proactive response to the predominant challenge encountered by passengers during prolonged train travels – limited culinary diversity. By leveraging its extensive network of restaurant partners, Swiggy endeavors to mitigate this challenge by delivering high-quality, warm meals directly to passengers’ seats. This initiative is poised to revolutionize train travel, rendering it more convenient and pleasurable for passengers.

Moreover, Swiggy’s support agents will undergo comprehensive training in conflict resolution, customer satisfaction, and cancellation policies, ensuring seamless operations and maximum comfort for passengers. These support agents will also be proficient in liaising with restaurants and delivery partners to address any customer concerns promptly and effectively.
