Krutrim, an innovative Artificial Intelligence startup founded by Bhavish Aggarwal, the visionary behind Ola, has introduced an AI chatbot in its public beta phase, akin to established platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

As India's inaugural AI unicorn, Krutrim achieved this milestone following a recent $50-million funding round, valuing the company at $1 billion. This landmark achievement solidifies Krutrim's position as a pioneering force in India's burgeoning tech landscape.

The chatbot, sharing its name with the company, was officially announced in December and serves as Krutrim's inaugural product. It harnesses the power of multilingual large language models (LLM), aptly named Krutrim, to deliver seamless communication experiences.

Krutrim's AI models, unveiled in December, boast an impressive capability to comprehend over 20 Indian languages while generating text in 10, including Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi. Anticipated for release in the fourth quarter of FY24, Krutrim Pro represents a more advanced iteration, promising enhanced problem-solving and task execution functionalities.

Distinguished by its ambition, Krutrim, meaning 'artificial' in Sanskrit, is set to offer two variants: the base model, Krutrim, trained on 2 trillion tokens and unique datasets, and the more sophisticated Krutrim Pro. Scheduled for launch in Q4 FY24, Krutrim Pro will possess multimodal capabilities, enabling seamless interaction across various formats such as text, audio, image, and video.

Looking ahead, Krutrim is focused on expanding its AI infrastructure, including the development of indigenous data centers. Its long-term vision encompasses ventures into server computing, edge computing, and supercomputers, alongside efforts to manufacture AI-optimized silicon chips.

In reflecting on India's unicorn landscape, 2023 saw the emergence of notable entities like InCred, a fintech company, and Zepto, an e-commerce platform specializing in grocery delivery. These successes underscore the growing prominence of tech-driven enterprises in India's economic narrative, with Krutrim poised at the forefront of this transformative journey.
