Kolezhuthu Script

Kolezhuthu script
Kerala Backwaters
Kolezhuthu is one of the earliest scripts developed for writing Dravidian languages alongwith Malayanma and Vattezhutu. It was mainly used for writing Malayalam and Tamil.

It is said that the script was recorded by using sharp writing tools such as kol or ezhuthani, henceforth it came to be known as the Kolezhuthu.

In comparision to Vattezhuthu, Kolezhuthu letters are linear, whereas Vattezhuthu letters are curvy. It is considered to be the script of Pallava and Chola kings and was in use till the rise of the 20th century, mostly in the Kochi and Malabar region.
