Agroclimatic Zones of West Bengal
On the basis of rainfall, topography, and socil characterstics, the Indian state of West Bengal can be divided into six agroclimatic zones. These are

1. Barind (Vindhya Alluvial Zone)
Districts: Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda
Rainfall: 2650 mm
Climate: Perhumid to humid
Soil type: Brown hilly soil

2. Gangetic Alluvial Zone (New Alluvial Zone)
Districts: Nadia, Bardhaman, Howrah, Midnapur, Murshidabad, Hooghly, Noth 24 Parganas
Rainfall: 1450 mm
Climate: Perhumid to humid
Soil type: Deltaic alluvial

3. Northern Hills
Districts: Darjeeling
Rainfall: 300 mm
Climate: Perhumid to humid
Soil type: Brown hilly soil

4. Terai-Teesta Alluvial Zone
Districts: Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Uttar Dinajpur
Rainfall: 2800 mm
Climate: Perhumid to humid
Soil type: Alluvial, red loamy soil

5. Rarh and Eastern Plateau  (Red and Laterite Zone)
Districts: Birbhum, Bankura, Purulia, West Mednipur
Rainfall: 1300 mm
Climate: Perhumid
Soil type: Red loamy

6. Coastal Saline Zone
Districts: South 24 Paraganas
Rainfall: 1600 mm
Climate: Perhumid
Soil type: Deltaic alluvial
