Muttathu Varkey Award is an annual literary award given for the outstanding contribution to Malayalam literature. The award is instituded by Muttattu Varkey Foundation in memory of novelist Muttathu Varkey in 1991. OV Vijayan was the first recepient of the prestigious award. Kamala Surraya or famously known as Madhavikkutty was the first female Malayali writer to win the award. In 2016 and 2017, the award was given for screenplay writing, exapanding the meaning of literature. The award was last given in 2019 to Benyamin.

K. R. Meera won the 2018 Muttathu Varkey Award for her novel Arachaar. The novel has recieved 2013 Odakkuzhal Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel. It has also won prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for Malayalam 2015.
