Agro-Climatic Zones of Madhya Pradesh
On the basis of relief, rainfall and soil, the state of Madhya Pradesh can be divided into eleven agro-climatic zones and five major crop zones. These zones are

Zone I
Chhattisgarh plains
Region: Balaghat
Rainfall: 120-160 cm
Soil: red and yellow soil
Major Crop: Rice
Major Horticulture Crops: Mango, Chiku, Guava

Zone II
Northern Hill Region of Chhattisgarh
Region: Shahdol, Mandla, Dindori, Anuppur, Umaria, and Singrauli
Rainfall: 120-160 cm
Soil: red, yellow, medium black soil
Major Crop: Rice
Major Horticulture Crops: Pear, Peach, Litchi

Zone III
Kymore Plateau and Satpura Hills
Region: Rewa, Satna, Panna, Jabalpur, Seoni, Katni, Sidhi
Rainfall: 100-140 cm
Soil: red and black soil
Major Crop: Wheat and Rice
Major Horticulture Crops: Mango, Guava, Lime

Zone IV
Central Narmada Valley
Region: Narsinghpur, Hoshangabad, Budni tehsil of Sehore, Bareli tehsil of Raisen
Rainfall: 120-160 cm
Soil: deep black soil
Major Crop: Wheat
Major Horticulture Crops: Mango, Acidlime, Mandarin

Zone V
Vindhya Plateau
Region: Bhopal, Sagar, Damoh, Vidisha, Raisen (except Bareli), Sehore (except Budni), and Chanchoda, Raghogarh & Aron tehsils of Guna.
Rainfall: 120-140 cm
Soil: medium to deep black soil
Major Crop: Wheat
Major Horticulture Crops: Mandarin, Acidlime, Mausaubi

Zone VI
Gird Zone
Region: Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur-Kala, Shivpuri (except tehsils of Pichore, Karera, Narwar, Khania-dana), Guna (except tehsils of Aron, Raghogarh, Chachoda), Ashok Nagar
Rainfall: 80-100 cm
Soil: alluvial soil
Major Crop: Wheat and Jowar
Major Horticulture Crops: Mandarin, Sweet Orange, Lime

Zone VII
Bundelkhand
Region: Chhattarpur, Datia, Tikamgarh, and Karera, Pichhore, Narwar & Khaniadhana tehsils of Shivpuri.
Rainfall: 80-140 cm
Soil: red and black soil
Major Crop: Wheat and Jowar
Major Horticulture Crops: Sweet Orange, Mausambi, Acidlime

Zone VIII
Satpura Plateau
Region: Betul and Chhindwara
Rainfall: 100-120 cm
Soil: shallow medium black soil
Major Crop: Wheat and Jowar
Major Horticulture Crops: Orange, Mausambi, Acidlime

Zone IX
Malwa Plateau
Region: Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Indore, Shajapur, Rajgarh and Dhar, Badnawar & Sardarpur tehsils of Dhar, Petlawad tehsil of Jhabua.
Rainfall: 80-120 cm
Soil: medium black soil
Major Crop: Cotton
Major Horticulture Crops: Orange, Mausambi, Acidlime, Grapes

Zone X
Nimar Plains
Region: Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Barwani, Harda and Manawar, Dharampuri & Gandhawani tehsils of Dhar.
Rainfall: 80-100 cm
Soil: medium black soil
Major Crop: Cotton
Major Horticulture Crops: Mango, Banana, Grape

Zone XI
Jhabua Hills
Region: Jhabua District (except Petlawad Tehsil) and Kukshi tehsil of Dhar
Rainfall: 80-100 cm
Soil: medium black soil
Major Crop: Cotton
Major Horticulture Crops: Lime, Mausambi, Ber
