Sant Bhasha is a creole language whose vocabulary is made up of words from Punjabi, Lahnda, Prakrit, Apabhramsa, Sanskrit, Hindi languages (Brajbhasha, Khadi Boli, Awadhi and Bhojpuri), Sindhi, and Persian.

The language was extensively used by the Bhakti Age saints and Sikh Gurus such Kabir, Guru Nanak Dev and so on, to compose the verses that can be easily understood by readers of different language background.

Ealier major sikh texts such as Adi Granth, Guru Granth Sahib and Dasam Granth are written in Sant Bhasha in Gurumukhi script. The language is not longer in use, it has dissimilated in modern Punjabi or Hindi.
